Bioidentical Hormones Come of Age for Women in Menopause

With the onset of baby boomer women in menopause, many are beginning to realize that living without their hormones is unnecessary.

There has been alot of media attention lately educating consumers about menopause and bioidentical hormones, including the series every Thursday on the Oprah Winfrey Show, setting the record straight about how much they can help women. But it is very important to understand the types of bioidenticals available including static and rhythmic cycling, otherwise known as biomimetic dosing, versus synthetic hormones.

Synthetic hormones used in the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) back in the early part of this century scared women and doctors alike. Natural hormone replacement, not synthetic drugs with hormone-like effects, has not been proven to cause cancer. If estrogen and progesterone, or even testosterone, caused cancer, young women would be dead. IF this logic tells us estrogen doesn’t actually cause cancer in and of itself, then there must be more to the story.

Synthetic drugs with hormone-like effects, however, may not be the answer. The solution may involve the kind of estrogen, how much of it and when to take it. Currently many people believe that a hormone is natural if it is found in nature or created in a lab and it is chemically identical to the hormone in the body. Just note that if the substance or structure is changed in a laboratory, then it becomes a synthetic hormone. This may trigger the activity of hormone receptors produced in the body – alluding to a natural occurring result, however, synthetics differ not only in structure but also in the synergistic actions they have on the mechanisms of the human body.

Rhythmic cycling bioidentical hormones have recently been introduced to mimic the hormone levels of a young woman. This rhythmic bioidentical hormone replacement matches the natural high and low states of the menstrual cycle in a healthy female woman, so even women who have gone through menopause will get their menstrual cycles again like when they were in their prime.

All of the other bioidenticals are static and not dosed via rhythmic cycling. Once your blood levels are tested, you can ask your doctor to tell you more about bioidentical hormones.

Tens of thousands of women are now on the rhythmic cycling bioidentical hormone protocol including celebrity-author Suzanne Somers, who first wrote about them in her book “Ageless.” These women’s testimonials prove that almost ALL of their menopausal symptoms are gone — not just a select few. Meaning hot flashes, brain fog, dry skin, sleeplessness, and loss of interest in sex, etc.

When one searches the Internet for “bioidentical hormone replacement therapy,” you will find interviews with women who have found them to be successful, and read or listen to a number of medical doctor’s opinions about this special kind of bioidentical hormone therapy in Internet podcasts.

A Short Introduction To Aquarium Cycling Methods

By setting some time aside to proper cycling, your aquarium will be much easier to maintain, since the cycling process aim to produce a thriving population of beneficial bacteria that will convert harmful waste products into less dangerous compounds. You need two types of beneficial bacteria in your aquarium.

The first type converts ammonia into nitrite, while the other type converts nitrite into nitrate. Ammonia will be produce by the metabolism of your fish and extracted from the gills and in fish poo. High levels of ammonia are dangerous to fish, but fortunately enough there exist a group of bacteria that can convert ammonia into nitrite. Nitrite is actually even more toxic than ammonia, but the second group of bacteria will turn the nitrite into nitrate, which is much less toxic. The nitrate can then be removed by regular water changes.

The beneficial bacteria will of course need to be introduced to the aquarium, and this can be made by simply adding one or two sturdy fishes from species that cope well even with high levels of soluble waste. Their waste products will contain live bacteria than can start to colonies suitable homes in the aquarium, such as sponge filters and gravel. If you want to jump start the process, you can purchase a bacterial solution from the fish store that contains the right type of nitrifying bacteria. You can also use gravel or sponge from an already established aquarium when you set up a new one, but you should keep in mind that this can introduce benevolent bacteria as well.

When you purchase a bacterial culture form the fish store, you should always carefully read the label and avoid getting nitrobacter bacteria. Earlier, nitrobacter bacteria was believed to be very powerful converters of nitrite to nitrate, but scientific studies have now showed that nitrospira bacteria are much stronger converters. Some fish stores still sell nitrobacter bacteria, even though nitrospira bacteria are a better choice.

Another method of cycling the aquarium is the so called ‘fishless cycle’. This cycling method is much less frequently used compared to the one that uses cycling fish, but it has grown increasingly popular during the last few years. During fishless cycling, you will add small amounts of pure ammonia to the water together with nitrifying bacteria and wait for them to form large colonies. You will need a test kit to measure the amounts of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Investing in a test kit is however a good idea even if you use fish to cycle your aquarium.

A third cycling method uses plants and is commonly referred to as ’silent cycling’. This method requires a densely planted aquarium with thriving plants. You should therefore avoid sensitive, demanding and slow growing plant species. During the silent cycling, the plants will consume nitrogenous compounds and use them as nutrition. Aquarists fond of this method like it since it does not produce the ammonia and nitrate spikes that are common during other forms of cycling. You should keep in mind that when plants absorb nitrogenous compounds they incorporate them leaves and stems. If the plant, or a part of the plant, dies and starts to decay, the compounds will therefore be re-released into the water. Pruning the aquatic plants and removing any dead parts are therefore important.

Schools Go On Cycling Holidays

Exploring the world by bicycle can seem a daunting prospect, and at one time it truly was. Nowadays though this is changing rapidly, and more people are taking cycling holidays not just as a form of exercise, but in an effort to be environmentally friendly, too.

Cycling holidays are the newest school holiday trend and interest is growing annually and because of this more travel companies are spending time compiling suitable packages for school group trips. Most companies worth their salt who offer cycling packages now comply with rigorous bicycle safety standards, and checks will be performed on your hired bikes with regularity.

The wind whipping through your hair and the tired legs after a hard day pedalling, all contribute to a fantastic sense of achievement and well being. Not only is cycling a wonderful form of exercise, but you can learn more on a bicycle as you go along than you ever could sat on a coach whizzing past scenery and not getting a proper look.

How could you possibly explore the Rhone thoroughly by car or coach? Could you acquaint yourself with the intricacies of its vineyards, lavender fields and orchards that way? If you were travelling by bicycle you could afford to take it all in as you glide smoothly by in your group and chat as you go with no noisy engine to stop everyone hearing you. What’s more, after taking all of the beautiful countryside in, your school children would then have the opportunity to learn more when you stop at a landmark.

Education has changed so much, and children are finally growing up to be more economically friendly, they are understanding the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and as a result cycling holidays can only be immensely popular with the children, and their parents. The great thing about cycle holidays though now, is that with holiday prices dropping to an all time low there is every chance you could snag five days cycling in France for the same price as a weeks guest hotel price in your own country.

The children deserve more, they work harder now and are ultimately more responsible earlier. With the enjoyment they take in healthy exercise now, it would seem a shame to deny them the opportunity to see more of the world while they increase their fitness and become healthier; not to mention the educational aspect of touring another country and learning to appreciate its culture and ways of life.

A Short Introduction To The Cycling Process And Different Cycling Methods

A very important part of setting up an aquarium is the so called cycling process. This process is unfortunately neglected by many aquarists who simply fill their aquarium with water, perhaps some water treatment, let the water stay for 24 hours and then rapidly scoop down their fish into their new home.

By setting some time aside to proper cycling, your aquarium will be much easier to maintain, since the cycling process aim to produce a thriving population of beneficial bacteria that will convert harmful waste products into less dangerous compounds. The Signs Of Rapid Cycling Bipolar Disorder

Rapid cycling bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that most people do not understand or know about. Bipolar disorder by itself is a condition in which its sufferers cycle between two poles of mental instability; mania and depression. Rapid cycling occurs when the sufferer shifts quickly between the two states with little to no warning.

Because it is one of the most serious forms of bipolar disorder the prognosis for anyone afflicted with rapid cycling bipolar disorder is not always good. The mental health and brain function of people with this condition is highly compromised because of the rate at which they go from mania to depression and back again. Treating this condition is also difficult because the medications used for mania and depression are different and can actually make the symptoms worse.

The only way to get an accurate diagnosis for this serious condition is to have a full mental health evaluation done by a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist. A licensed mental health professional can do the necessary tests and see if the symptoms presented are indeed bipolar disorder. In order to make a rapid cycling diagnosis the patient will have to meet the standards set forth in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders IV-TR which states that the patient must have at least four episodes of depression and mania/hypomania in a one year period.

Some people with rapid cycling bipolar disorder are asymptomatic, meaning they have periods when they exhibit neither of the cycles associated with this disorder. This does not diminish their need to effectively deal with their condition because when the mania and depression do hit it can be severe enough to be life threatening.

The more troubling side of this disorder is those who have little to no time between normalcy and a depressive or manic episode. Without proper mental health help people who suffer from this extreme can be a danger to themselves and others.

It is also likely that those who suffer from rapid cycling bipolar disorder will also partake in risky behavior. There sense of right and wrong is sometimes not as it should be and they are willing to take chances with their health and well being. Drug and alcohol abuse is not out of the question particularly for those who like to self medicate. This can actually make the symptoms much worse and cause the cycling between the two extremes to happen at an even faster pace.

You can find out more about rapid cycling bipolar disorder on the internet or at your local library. There is a wealth of information out there to help those who suffer from this disease but it is important that if you or someone you know may have this disorder that the first and best place to get help is from licensed mental health professional. That is the only way to get the treatment that will effectively deal with this form of bipolar disease and allow its sufferers to live a more normal life.

Anabolic Steroid Cycle

People who wish to cut fat and add muscles simultaneously and want to use legal and save drugs must consult a physician before using any anabolic steroid. The time period in which a person uses anabolic steroids is called anabolic steroid cycle. The steroid cycles can include also taking an anabolic steroid at the beginning of the cycle and finish with another steroid, to enhance the desired result.

Steroids, as synthetic versions of the testosterone, are stimulating the muscles growth. Users will look strong and big on the outside, forgetting the side effects, that may be creating weakness inside.

Steroid stacks have proven to be the most efficient way to build muscle than when the athlete uses one type. The use of more than one steroid in an anabolic steroid cycle is dramatically increasing the risk of side effects. This is the reason why the steroids users will stack non-anabolic drugs to minimize the harmful steroid side effects.

An anabolic steroid cycle is the period where a users intakes this type of drugs. A long anabolic steroid cycle will really affect the hypothalamus / pituitary / testicular axis to recover. HPT suppression will make necessary a permanent testosterone therapy. Many steroid abusers are stacking drugs, “cycling” or “pyramiding” is defining the practice of gradually increasing and gradually decreasing anabolic steroid doses over a period if time.

The cycle duration depend on the drug users. Some individuals are often against short cycles and long periods off; some are suggesting a year round use to have optimal results. In reality, it is really up to the individual to take the cycle that suits best for him. Beginners must watch the intake duration because the anabolic steroids are strong. Easily aromatized steroids should be used for only short intervals, less than eight weeks. After this period, it is necessary a break of at least as long as the previous period. The body needs time to recover and rest.

The users who are not respecting these indications must check often their health condition. The fact that anabolic steroids are not acting dramatically is making some users to establish the anabolic steroid cycle for a long time period. The best solution is to build the muscles tissues using traditional methods, such as training and appropriate diet.

Many athletes do not understand these prescriptions and find a cycle of three or four months most appropriate. The athlete must avoid the use of steroids an year after a cycle, in order to respect the natural hormonal balance. The body really needs a time to regain the natural hormonal balance. Individual must ensure that there are only very little possibilities of future side effects. If an individual believes that these effects are reversible, they are wrong. Problems with libido, virility, sterility can appear because the body was overloaded with male hormones for years. Anabolic steroid cycles are involving high blood pressure, liver toxicity, high cholesterol levels and athlete must limit the duration on anabolic steroid cycles if they are not avoiding it completely.
